When to Visit Milos: The Best Times to Explore

June, July & August (High Season):
If you’re planning a summer getaway, be prepared for peak crowds and soaring temperatures. High season is when Milos is at its liveliest, but hotel and Airbnb options can be both limited and pricey if you don’t book well in advance. This is the perfect time for beach lovers, but plan ahead to secure your ideal stay!

May, June, September & October (Shoulder Season):
We visited in September, and I have to say—it’s the sweet spot! The weather is still warm and sunny, the crowds are more manageable, and you can often find better deals on accommodations. However, keep in mind that in April, May, and late October, not everything on the island is open. The weather can also be a bit unpredictable and might feel too chilly for swimming.

November to April (Low Season):
Unless you’re okay with cooler weather and the majority of shops and restaurants being closed, this is the time of year to avoid. While it may be quieter, the off-season vibe means limited options for dining, shopping, and activities.

No matter when you visit, Milos offers its own unique charm. With a bit of planning, you can find the perfect balance between weather, budget, and activities to make the most of your trip!

How Many Days Should You Spend on Milos?

Three to five days is the perfect amount of time to explore Milos! This island may be small, but it’s packed with breathtaking beauty and endless activities.

We only had three days, and while it was amazing, I found myself wishing for at least two more to fully soak in everything Milos has to offer. With five days, you’ll have plenty of time to lounge on its stunning beaches, indulge in the island’s best restaurants, and take an unforgettable boat tour along the dramatic coastline.

Whether you’re on a quick getaway or a leisurely escape, Milos is guaranteed to leave you enchanted. So, pack your bags and get ready to discover why this island is a Cycladic gem!

Essential Tips for Visiting Milos

To make the most of your trip to Milos, keep these helpful tips in mind:

Currency:
Greece uses the Euro (€) as its official currency. While most places on the island accept credit cards, it’s always smart to carry some cash for smaller purchases, especially in local markets or at beachside stalls.

Pack Water Shoes:
Many of Milos’ stunning beaches are rocky, so don’t forget to pack a pair of water shoes. They’ll make walking along the shore and enjoying beach days much more comfortable—and your feet will thank you!

Book Dinner Reservations:
If you’re visiting during the high season, plan ahead and make dinner reservations. Milos has a limited number of restaurants, and you definitely don’t want to miss out on indulging in some of the freshest, most delicious seafood in the world.

By planning ahead and packing smart, you’ll be fully prepared to enjoy everything Milos has to offer!

HOW TO GET AROUND MILOS GREECE:

Why You Need to Rent a Car in Milos, Greece: The Ultimate Guide

Milos, Greece, is a breathtaking island known for its stunning beaches, charming villages, and incredible landscapes. While it’s smaller than some of its Cycladic neighbors, getting around can be tricky without your own transportation. If you want to explore Milos beyond the main tourist areas, renting a car is your best bet. Here’s why renting a car in Milos is essential and what you need to know before hitting the road.

Why Renting a Car in Milos is a Must

  1. Limited Public Transportation
While Milos does have buses, their routes and schedules are limited, making it difficult to visit more remote beaches and attractions. If you want the freedom to explore at your own pace, a rental car is the way to go.
  2. Explore Hidden Beaches
Some of the island’s most famous beaches—like Firiplaka, Tsigrado, and Papafragas—are difficult to reach without a car. Plus, iconic spots like Sarakiniko and Kleftiko require a bit of a drive before you can fully experience their beauty.
  3. Flexibility and Convenience
Having your own vehicle means you can set your own schedule. Whether you want to chase the sunset in Plaka, enjoy a late dinner in Pollonia, or take a spontaneous road trip around the island, you won’t be tied to bus timetables.
  4. Affordable and Worth the Cost
Compared to taxis, which can get expensive for multiple trips, renting a car is often more cost-effective—especially if you’re traveling with friends or family.

What to Know Before Renting a Car in Milos, Greece:

  • Book in Advance: Especially during the high season (June-August), rental cars sell out quickly. Reserve yours ahead of time to get the best deal.
  • Choose the Right Car: While most roads are paved, some leading to beaches and off-the-beaten-path spots can be rough. A small SUV or a car with good ground clearance is a great option.
  • Driving in Milos: Roads can be narrow and winding, so drive carefully. Parking in towns like Plaka can be tight, but there are designated lots nearby.
  • Check Rental Policies: Some companies have restrictions on taking rental cars on dirt roads, so clarify before you book.

Where to Rent a Car in Milos

There are plenty of rental options in Adamas (the main port) and at the airport. Some popular and reliable car rental companies include:

  • Milos Cars – A trusted local company with great reviews.
  • Milos Rent a Car – Great customer service and a wide selection of vehicles.
  • DriveMilos – Competitive prices and flexible options.

I hope I’ve sparked your excitement to visit one of Greece’s most beloved islands! For us, it was truly the highlight of our trip—a place that offered endless romantic moments where we could slow down, soak in the breathtaking scenery, and simply be present. From its stunning landscapes to its undeniable charm, this island is a destination that stays with you long after you’ve left.
